Ocoee Middle School, located in Ocoee, Florida, is celebrating reading in a whole new way.The school hired a professional singer to write and sing lyrics relating to reading and literacy. The concept of the song is to encourage kids to prepare and read for the FCAT test. The video features children of all different backgrounds singing and dancing along to the song.

I found this youtube clip this week and showed it to my year 5 students. When it started off, they were all cynical and scathing about this being “a bit random” etc. By the time the clip got going, they were all wriggling in their seats and joining in singing the chorus. Click on the link and see how much fun this is and what a fabulous way it is of promoting the important message about the need to read! We LOVED it – hope you do too.
